There are several trees that could be a good replacement. The one you choose will depend on how large you want it to get, or other characteristics you might want to have. Small trees may perpetually have problems with deer browse / buck rub though. Here's some options:
Larger/Taller trees:
-Sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua) great fall color
-Black gum (nyssa sylvatica) slow growth, great fall colors, but can grow awkwardly
-swamp white oak (quercus bicolor) slow growth
-willow oak (quercus phellos)
-silver maple (acer saccharum)
perfect for the soil/sun conditions, grows fast but weakens with age (maybe in the 40-60 year range)
-river birch (betula nigra)
-black willow (salix nigra)
perfect for the soil/sun conditions, grows fast but weakens with age (maybe in the 40-60 year range)
Smaller/Shorter trees
-eastern red bud (cercis canadensis)
early spring flowers
-hornbeam (carpinus caroliniana)
-smooth alder (alnus serrulata)
will sprout and grow into a clump
-pussy willow (salix spp)
will sprout and grow into a clump, has early spring flowers
