I recently came across this pile of slime in the forest. It's was around 16' long and 6' wide and ranged in color from amber to darker reddish tones. The location was in Nineveh, NY, which is in Broome County.
Suggestions so far have been afterbirth from a deer, or a "plug" from a bear recently out of hibernation. But the goo had no smell whatsoever and there were no flies on it, as you would expect from either of those suggestions.

Has anyone seen anything like this before or can anyone help me identify it?

Thanks, Heather
