I am interested in creating a forum that allows people interested in deer exclosures to get information on them.

Information involving things that worked and didn't work.  Success and failure relates to the deer pressure.  Deer pressure varies from place to place so what works somewhere may not work somewhere else.

I would like to have people share what they have found that works and doesn't work to exclude deer from an area of woods.  By creating a community with input from those who have tried different types of exclosures we can make that information available to more people.

Here is a general post from a blog that Kris Brown did on My Woodlot.

Share your successes and failures in detail.  What size of exclosure did you create?  What materials did you us?  How was it constructed?  Why did it fail?  etc.

THE ONLY THING WHICH WORKS TO PROTECT TREE SEEDLINGS FROM DEER BROWSE AND BUCK RUB IS A NATURAL BLOWN DOWN OF A FOREST WITH IMPASSIBLE BRANCHES, LOGS, AND PITS/MOUNDS WITH RAPID, NATURAL REGROWTH OF THOUSANDS OF HEALTHY TREES ON THEIR OWN! DO NOT WASTE TIME AND LABOR INSTALLING TREE TUBES OF ANY DESIGN, AS THE DEER CAN REMOVE THEM, BROWSE, AND RUB EVERY TREE TO DEATH. WHEN THE TREES OUTGROW THE TUBES, AND THEY MUST BE REMOVED, THE BUCKS WILL THEN FINISH RUBBING THEM TO DEATH. THE SOLID TUBES ALSO TRAP BIRDS. ALL OF THAT PLASTIC CONTRADICTS THE VALUE OF PLANTING TREES. PLANT BARE ROOT SEEDLINGS, AND PLACE USED CHRISTMAS TREE BRANCHES AGAINST THE STEMS, OR PRUNED BRANCHES. TREE TUBES ARE USELESS IN AREAS OF HIGH DEER POPULATION. TREE TUBES ARE USELESS. SOLID OR MESH TREE TUBES ARE USELESS. DEER REPELLANTS COMBINED WITH BRANCHES ARE MORE EFFECTIVE!!!!! BUILD A BLACK BEAR AND COYOTE DEN TO KEEP THEM IN A REFORESTATION SITE DURING WINTER! CREATE A DOG WALKING PARK IN A REFORESTATION SITE AND A SCHOOL CHILDREN EDUCATIONAL AREA TO DETER THE DEER !!!
