If you want to prioritize supporting wildlife with your native plant selections, use the Native Plant Finder tool to search your zip code for “trees and shrubs” or “flowers and grasses” that support the most caterpillar species. Caterpillars feed songbirds and pollinate plants that in turn produce fruits and seeds that many types of wildlife depend upon.

The Native Plant Center is a great place to start learning about native flowers for your garden. Use the links on the left side of the screen to find recommended plant species, locate demonstration gardens, and find upcoming events and workshops.

The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center has a wealth of information about native plants. This link lets you search for native plant nurseries by city, state, or zip code. To be listed, at least 50% of a nursery’s inventory must be native plants.

The PLANTS Database provides standardized information about the vascular plants, mosses, liverworts, hornworts, and lichens of the U.S. and its territories.
