I was hiking along the edge of a field the other day and surprised a pair of hen turkeys. They were taking turns rolling in the dusty dirt. Their green iridescent feathers were beautiful even through the haze of dust they were kicking up. The whole encounter only last half a minute and I didn't get my camera out in time to get a picture of the turkeys. But I did snap a few shots of the coffee-table sized dirt bathtubs they used. All in all, it was a really satisfying spring hike!

Wow, I've seen them make a mess in leaf litter, but I didn't realize they were strong enough to rip up turf!
