Active forest management—whether felling cordwood, pulling heavy invasive vines, or clearing trail blockages—requires immense physical toll and stamina from private landowners. To help land stewards take care of their most critical operational tool (their own body), Mountain Top Arboretum hosts an outdoor physical strength and flexibility session on the lawn. Led by experienced local instructor Pamela Martin, this multi-level class translates core ergonomic physical alignments into helpful solutions for the heavy physical stress associated with outdoor manual labor.
The class covers targeted stretching and strengthening routines designed specifically to support the lower back, shoulders, wrists, and knees—the joints most prone to chronic strain during demanding land clearing or trail maintenance. Participants will discover how core stability, proper bending postures, and targeted breathing can decrease fatigue and significantly lower your injury risk when operating equipment or hauling brush out in the woodlot. Landowners are encouraged to arrive early at 2:00 PM if they wish to participate in volunteer gardening and trail cleanup alongside the arboretum staff prior to the class. Please bring an outdoor mat, plenty of water, and bug spray.
This event is hosted by Mountain Top Arboretum. This seasonal wellness series emphasizes how personal health and active outdoor environmental stewardship reinforce each other across the local community. This event is free with a suggested donation of $10.
