June Foraging and Fungi Workshop
Close out the month of June with a comprehensive nature walk and field workshop focused squarely on the abundance of wild edible plants and seasonal fungi growing within our local Hudson Valley woodlands. Managed forests hold a vast array of non-timber forest products that landowners can benefit from without altering the canopy landscape
Led by the experienced team at Wild Hudson Valley, participants will trek through diverse forest terrains to study the life cycles of early summer flora and fungal networks. We will discuss the vital, symbiotic relationship between underground fungal mycelium and tree roots, illustrating how mushrooms act as the forest's natural nutrient recyclers.
You will learn how to spot seasonal wild culinary treats, identify their distinguishing features with absolute certainty, and apply strict protocols for sustainable gathering so you leave the woodland intact for future seasons. Our instructors will also provide demonstrations on what these plants and fungi taste like, along with simple ancestral and modern techniques for preparing them safely at home. This class is heavily visual and hands-on, making it an excellent resource for budding naturalists and woodlot owners aiming to diversify their interactions with the land.
This event is hosted by Wild Hudson Valley. Wild Hudson Valley was founded in 2013 to teach about the rich history and environment of the region in a fresh, new way. Our walks, workshops, forest farmed products, and camping bring the past into the present and inspire others to become stewards of our planet.
