Sustainable forestry involves more than calculating board feet or clearing invasive brush; it also means cultivating a meaningful, personal connection to the land itself. As the forest begins its transition into autumn, Mountain Top Arboretum invites landowners and nature enthusiasts to a guided session of Shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing. Led by certified guide Beth Rennig, this slow-paced outdoor experience is designed to reduce stress, heighten sensory awareness, and foster a mindful appreciation for the natural woodland environment.
Unlike a traditional educational hike or a fast-paced fitness walk, forest bathing centers entirely on deliberate presence. Beth will lead the group through a sequence of sensory invitations, encouraging participants to listen to the canopy breeze, observe the micro-textures of tree bark, and tune into the earthy aromas of the early-autumn soil. This intentional approach allows you to slow down, quiet your mind, and experience the forest through a calm, non-technical lens. Landowners will discover how spending quiet, mindful time among their trees can enhance their long-term stewardship goals, inspiring a deeper commitment to protecting these vital green spaces for generations to come. Please dress warmly in comfortable layers suitable for sitting and slow movement.
This event is hosted by Mountain Top Arboretum. Mountain Top Arboretum is a public garden in the Catskills dedicated to managing native plant communities, preserving historic tree cultivars, and providing nature-focused arts, science, and wellness programming for the surrounding region.
