Canadarago Water Chestnut Paddle and Pull

Canadarago Water Chestnut Paddle and Pull

Protecting regional water quality requires keeping a close eye on the lakes, ponds, and streams that feed our broader watershed systems. Invasive aquatic plants can rapidly choke out native water vegetation, ruin fish habitats, and complicate recreational access. To combat these aggressive environmental pressures, the Catskill Regional Invasive Species Partnership (CRISP) is organizing a collaborative, hands-on field volunteer day at Canadarago Lake.

Participants will spend the day on the water learning how to properly spot, isolate, and safely hand-pull water chestnut configurations before their seeds can drop and spread further into regional waterways. CRISP naturalists will provide an on-site lesson covering native versus invasive aquatic plant identification, basic lake ecology, and watershed protection practices. This field day is ideal for local shoreline owners, outdoor enthusiasts, and conservation volunteers who want to make a tangible, positive difference in local water health. Participants are encouraged to bring their own kayaks or canoes, life jackets, and a dry set of clothes. Pre-registration is required to guarantee event coordination updates.
