As winter sets in, many Catskill residents know that maple season is on its way and have already stocked their woodpiles for a season of boiling. Today, the Catskill Region sits right in the heart of all maple syrup production globally. Why not learn to tap into that resource in your own backyard?

Join us for a short presentation on how to make maple syrup the simple way at home, followed by a hands-on demonstration of tapping trees, hanging buckets, and firing up the backyard evaporator to make a little syrup. Dress warmly, as we will be outdoors for part of the demonstration.

This event is hosted by the Catskill Forest Association. The Association was formed for the purpose of promoting knowledge and understanding of forest ecology and economics; to promote long-term forest management; to educate the public and enhance the economy of the Catskill region; to demonstrate economically feasible and environmentally sound forest practices: to serve as a source of information about forest management; to serve private landowner rights; and to identify and manage private forest lands dedicated to the demonstration and practices of high standards of forestry. The Association receives the majority of its operating funds through private grants, workshops, membership dues and contributions.
