Was hiking along the Hudson River in Beacon over the weekend and the blooming Joe Pye Weeds were loaded up with these yellow butterflies. Are they monarchs?
This is an Eastern tiger swallowtail butterfly. As kids we called these "yellow swallowtails" or "yellowtails" for short.
