I was out on Bear Spring Mountain in Walton, NY this morning, and I came across this red eft (the juvenile stage of the eastern newt). I thought it looked kind of weird, but it was only when I got to the office and looked at my photos that I realized why. I think it only has one eye! I wonder how it wound up that way? Maybe it was born that way, or could it have lost it somehow?
