The Agroforestry Resource Center located in Acra, NY -- home of Cornell Cooperative Extension for Columbia and Greene Counties and also Siuslaw Model Forest -- is another great way to learn more about agroforestry options for your woodlot. Hi Russ and welcome ! My colleague Kris had some excellent advice for you but I also wanted to let you know about our Management Assistance Program (MAP). MyWoodlot was built and maintained through the Watershed Agricultural Councils Forestry Program and we have cost-share funding available to help landowners like yourself (in the NYC watershed) implement some management practices in your woodlot. Here is a link to the MAP Program web page and Application Form which lists all the practices we currently fund. One of the options is a site visit from a forester on our team. They are available for a walk and talk with you on your property to discuss options and ideas for you to consider. Hope to hear from you in the future and feel free to post a picture of your home !
