Some of you may have heard, but there's a lot of discussion going on right now in New York about proposed changes to the state's Forest Tax Law Program (480-a), which lowers property taxes for woodland owners if they meet certain requirements. It looks like the program is going to stay intact for at least the remainder of this year, but my understanding is that the state plans to bring up a possible overhaul of the program again in next year's legislative session. If you want to find out more about the proposed changes and voice your opinion, the Watershed Agricultural Council's Forestry Program has set up an informational website about 480-a, www.ny480a.com.
