Thanks for your message. Unfortunately you're not in the NYC Watershed so you wouldn't be eligible for a free visit from one of out foresters BUT the Master Forest Owner (MFO) Program has some members in Putnam County. These are forestland owners who have had training and experiences managing forests and are there to help people like yourself make informed decisions on your land - even if it does not involve harvesting. Many people manage for wildlife and aesthetics. They will come to your property, free of charge, and walk and talk about options and opportunities that may be available to you in your area. I think that would be a good place for you to start.
