Saw two small deer fences in Westchester today. They were installed to protect recently planted shrubs that deer love to eat. The shrubs not only benefit wildlife, but are great for the garden too.

If you are going to go to the trouble of installing a fence, it makes sense to plant as many low and high growing , native shrubs and trees as possible, and to use bare root seedlings, which benefit the most from a fence.
