Can anyone ID this larvae thing I found when splitting firewood this weekend? I found a few of them in different logs, but no more than two per log. They were about 1-1.5 inches long and looked like they were white beneath the skin with some black markings. Kinda gross actually ! The tree species I found them in was the same but I have no idea what it was.

While I can't identify the species, I can provide some insight. It's a beetle larva of the order Coleoptera. Larvae of this group are characterized by a white "grub"-like body with a hardened, dark head. To identify the specific species, you would need to find an entomologist to give a specimen to (they would likely ask the species of wood and how long ago the tree was cut down too).
