I live in Westchester, NY and heard a very strange noise last night around 10. It sounded like a repetitive ‘hoot’ followed by a low screech - very likely an animal but didn’t sound like an owl.. I listened to clips of coyotes, owls, red fox and I can't find anything that sounds similar... Any ideas?

While it's hard to know what animal made the sound without hearing it, you've provided some great clues (e.g. sound happened at 10 PM, repetitive 'hoots', followed by a low screech). Keep your ears open. You may get the chance to record the sound next time.
