Attending forestry related events and farmers markets is one of the ways that we market MyWoodlot.com to family forest owners in the NYC Watershed. It is a great way to meet landowners and learn about their interests, concerns, and objectives for their woods. This blog highlights our tabling event schedule for summer and fall 2023.

Whose Poo? and MyWoodlot materials on display at the 2022 NYS Woodsmen’s Field Days in Boonville, NY.

We encourage you to visit us and:

  1. Test your knowledge of wildlife tracks and scat with our famous Whose Poo? display.
  2. Learn about MyWoodlot’s 11 Interest Areas that provide how-to resources for landowners of all types.
  3. Become familiar with Watershed Agricultural Council (WAC) Forestry programs such as:
    • The Management Assistance Program (MAP): A cost-share program to help landowners complete stewardship activities that promote forest health, wildlife habitat, and water quality protection.
    • The Best Management Practice Program (BMP): A cost-share program that provides financial and technical assistance to loggers on timber harvests in the NYC Watershed. This program focuses on forestry BMPs to reduce erosion and sediment delivery to streams from forest roads and trails.
    • The NYS Forest Tax Law Program (480a): Landowners with 50 or more contiguous forest acres can save substantially on their property taxes every year. This program helps landowners look after their woodlot for the future and increase long-term income from the land. However, it requires commitment to managing the woods for a rolling ten-year period. WAC offers a cost-share program for 480a enrollments and updates.
  4. Take home MyWoodlot-branded materials and other resources such as:
    • Activity Starter Kit cards for landowners
    • Pocket guides for wildlife tracking
    • Pens
    • Fridge magnets
    • Pamphlets for MAP, BMP, and 480a
